Steps Toward a Spirit-Led Life

Wade E Taylor

“If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”  Galatians 5:25

To “live in the Spirit” is to yield the totality of our being so Jesus can live His life through us as a present day witness.  This requires our living on a high plain of commitment, and our maintaining an active personal relationship with Jesus.  This will enable us to say with the Apostle Paul:

“I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me….”  Galatians 2:20

A New Song

Wade E Taylor

“And they sang a new song, saying, You are worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation. And has made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”  Revelation 5:9-10

This “new song” is not one that we learn.  Rather, it is the result of our submission to the dealings of the Lord, and it is a testimony of what we have become – “kings and priests.”

The “twenty four elders” represent the Old Testament overcomers.  The “four living creatures” represent the four sides of spiritual maturity, the New Testament overcomer. They are singing – “and has made us.”  This song is the result of the “processing” that takes place during our life time, which leads to our being chosen as an overcomer.

Born of the Spirit

Wade E Taylor

“There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night.”  John 3:1-2a

Nicodemus waited until it was dark so he would not be recognized.  However, there is a deeper meaning as to why he “came by night.”  The Old Covenant, the Law, began in manifest glory, but had degenerated into a religious ritual which resulted in spiritual darkness.  Nicodemus walked out of this religious darkness toward the One he now recognized as being the “light” that he sought, but being a Pharisee, had not previously found.

“Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”  John 8:12  Douay-Rheims Bible

As Nicodemus approached Jesus, he said, “Good Master.”  He was saying, “Jesus, You have something that I do not have. I have come to see what it is, and receive.”

“Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”  John 3:3 NASB

Our Attaining to that Which is Best

Wade E Taylor

“Yes, I long to come to know Him; that is, the power of His resurrection, and so to share with Him His sufferings as to be continuously transformed by His death, in the hope of attaining, in some measure, the resurrection that lifts me out from among the dead.”  Philippians 3:10-11 Williams

We must guard our spirit concerning attitudes and things that can hinder the “quality” of our spiritual life.  When we neglect to value and maintain His presence in our daily life experience, we will gradually lose our interest in daily communing with the Lord.  Our understanding of spiritual principles will become clouded and deteriorate, and we will be robbed of His best for us.

Becoming Spiritually Perceptive

Wade E Taylor

“After this, I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up here, and I will show you things which must be hereafter.”  Revelation 4:1

After this, I looked.”  The result of John’s response to the manifestation of the presence of the Lord was an opening into the realm of the Spirit – “a voiceas a trumpet talking with me.”  This “voice as a trumpet” is a call to action, and speaks of spiritual direction and authority.  Notice that the door opened, when John looked.

For those who are responding as John responded, there is an empowering that has to do with “dominion” that is being imparted at this present time.  When this verse was quickened to me, I began asking the Lord to “show me things which must be hereafter.”  This prayer is being answered.

You Shall Be Witnesses

Wade E. Taylor

“But you shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and you shall be witnesses to Me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the uttermost part of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit was given that we might receive the enabling to “become” a witness.  This speaks of far more than our receiving power to do witnessing, as we ourselves are to become this witness – not something that we are to do or say.

Becoming a Witness

Wade E Taylor

“For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”  I Corinthians 12:13

The “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is received at the time of salvation, in which we are “immersed,” or “set” into the Body of Christ, by the Holy Spirit.

“Now you are the body of Christ, and members in particular.”  I Corinthians 12:27

We are all baptized into one body.”  Through “regeneration,” we are made a specific member of His body (a member in particular).  As we grow spiritually, we will discover our place within the Body of Christ (placement).  It is important that we both know and function in this specific calling and ministry.

“One Lord, one faith, one baptism.”  Ephesians 4:5

OUR RESTING IN CONFIDENCE

June Taylor

The enemy is making a lot of “noise” these days, doing all he can to cause fear and panic on the earth and to thwart God’s Kingdom. And yes, around the world people’s foundations are being challenged and shaken. BUT – In spite of the adversary’s best schemes, the KING OF KINGS LORD OF LORDS OUR GOD reigns!

As believers, we know that our God is on the throne, and His Kingdom rules over all. He is still in control. And His invitation remains to “Enter His rest”, “to fear not”, “to be still”, “to trust”. And it seems we have been given an opportune season to draw close and re-assess; and to make sure that God alone is our great confidence.

Deep Calls Unto Deep

June Taylor

Charles Wesley wrote, “Amazing love! How can it be that thou my God wouldst die for me?”

We continue to be amazed as we ponder the depths Jesus, the Son of Man went, to redeem mankind and deliver us from evil. His suffering went beyond the stripes and the cross, down into the belly of the earth.

“For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” Matthew 12:40

The Lasting Value of Communion

Wade E Taylor

As the “facets” in a diamond are viewed, some appear as being opposite to other facets; but rather, the beauty of a diamond is that these facets “complement” each other.  So also, the partaking of “communion” with our Lord has many different ways in which it may be understood and experienced.

Many receive communion in a ritualistic manner; partaking religiously, rather than first being lifted into the presence of the Lord through worship, and adoration of who He is.  There must be a time of preparation for us to effectively partake of “communion” with the Lord.  Just as it is not possible for us to “wait on the Lord in His presence” until we have passed from the natural realm into the spiritual, it is not possible for us to “receive” the value and substance of the body and blood of Jesus, until we exchange realms.

Maintaining A Personal Relationship With The Lord

Wade E Taylor

A “word” that is being quickened at this present time is, “Rise Up,” or, “Come Higher.”  Wherever we are in our spiritual life experience, the Lord is challenging us to come higher.

“After these things I saw a door standing open in heaven.  The first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, Come up here, and I will show you what must happen after this.”  Revelation 4:1 International Standard Version

There are several terms that relate to our having a “higher” (deeper) walk with the Lord.  One of these words is “overcomer.”

An “overcomer” is one who “rises above” a difficult circumstance or situation, by dealing with it.  Being an overcomer is not the result of something that we do; rather, it is what we have become through the experience of what we do.  It is the unconditional commitment of our life to the Lord – our “heart attitude,” or the “set” of our spirit.  We are to live in the Lord’s presence as being totally dependent upon Him, as a “branch” depends on the “vine” to which it is vitally attached.

The world recognizes our need for increased physical energy, and advertises all kinds of things to give us that energy.  Our spiritual energy also needs not only to be maintained, but also to be increased.  This “energy” must come from above.  Jesus said:

“I am the vine, you are the branches: He that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without Me you can do nothing.”  John 15:5

Intercession

Wade E Taylor

“But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.”  Matthew 6:6

This speaks of the importance and the power of private, personal prayer.

To go into our “closet” and shut the door in order to pray is a very private, personal experience.  Here, in the privacy of our “set apart place” of prayer, we can express our heart to the Lord.  To express our deep inner desires and feelings in prayer, is as medicine to our soul.  But there is a greater and more important blessing.  Our Heavenly Father hears our secret prayer, and He will openly reward us.

Because no one is involved in our “shut in” time, we can come aside and pray at any time.  We “choose” when to pray.

However, intercession is quite different; we “respond” to an intercessory burden which “impregnates” us, and we intercede until it is “birthed.”

This speaks of the importance and power of private, personal intercession.

“Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”  Romans 8:26

A Time of Transition

Wade E Taylor

Because we are at the end of the Church Age and the beginning of the time of transition into the Kingdom Age, many are going through difficult and trying wilderness experiences.  These wilderness experiences are for a purpose that we must understand, if we are to be fully prepared for the outworking of our calling and ministry.

Two of the Biblical transition messengers, Moses and John the Baptist, were each taken into an extended wilderness experience to be prepared for the transition in their times.  Today, we also are living in a time of transition.  Therefore, many are being called apart by the Lord to be “made ready” to fulfill their part in all that is about to take place, in both the Church and the nations.

“Annas and Caiaphas being the high priests, the word of God came to John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness.”  Luke 3:2

Spiritual new beginnings often begin in a wilderness experience – in the privacy of our personal relationship with the Lord, where separated from all else, we interact with Him alone.  John the Baptist was called apart into a desolate place for a very specific purpose.  Later, when asked who he was, his response reveals the deep work of preparation that had taken place during his time in the wilderness.

“He said, I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as Isaiah the prophet said.”  John 1:23 NASB

Waiting for the Lord

Dear Friends in our Lord’s Calling and Purposes,

Each month I highlight one article written by my dad, Wade Taylor. As we begin the new year, I am praying earnestly as to what truths would be most helpful to set our hearts on.  My prayer is that these writings will be a strength and encouragement to you, as you continue in your times of daily fellowship with the Lord.

As a New Year begins, I am often drawn to truths relating to spending quality time in the Lord’s presence.  This was very much a part of my dad’s life, something we often saw him doing.  They are probably some of my favorite teaching because they transformed my own life as well.  Busyness will always challenge devotion.  Yet it is at the very heart of our walk with the Lord, and is worth contending for.  Let’s determine to find that “time apart” throughout the year where we can spend quality time with Him.  As we do, it will make a difference!

Prayerfully yours,
Nancy Taylor Tate

“Deep calls to deep…. Psalm 42:7

Deep calling to deep” is descriptive of a deep desire for fellowship that is within our Lord and by divine design, within each of us.  The Lord had searched both the universe and all that He had created, but could not find the satisfaction He desired.
