The Best Gift

Nancy Taylor Tate

What if Christ had not come? There would be no Christmas trees, stockings or wreaths of holly! This reality really hit me the several times I have been in a non-Christian nation during the holidays. I saw no Christmas celebrations, except for the Christians who celebrated Christmas.

Amazingly, even traditions such as these can speak of God’s glory. Because of the first coming of Christ, our calendars have been established. A time has been set aside each year to celebrate Christmas. We give gifts because Jesus came as the greatest gift!

It is with joy we can share the good news with all people. A Saviour has come! He is coming again! (Luke 2:11; Acts 1:11)

Jesus is God’s righteousness revealed. “And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth. (John 1:14)

Paul said that Jesus is the very image of God. (2 Corinthians 4:4) Jesus himself said, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” (John 14:9)

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” (1 John 3:5)

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)

What wonderful verses to reflect on!

May the Holy Spirit open the eyes of our understanding that through the Lord Jesus Christ we might be brought into deeper fellowship with God, the fellowship He created us for and so longs to have with us!

Jesus gave of His own person, His very life, for us. One of the best gifts we can give to another is the sharing of our lives, or “the gift of time.”

Whether we make time to speak a kind word or do a kind act, may it come from our hearts and minister God’s love.
