Salt of the Earth

Nancy Taylor Tate

A verse comes to mind this morning as I am in prayer: “Can that which is unsavory be eaten without salt?” Job 6:6

As Christians, through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit in our hearts which has made us new creations in Christ Jesus, we have become as salt in the earth. (Titus 3:5; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Matthew 5:13)

Salt adds flavor to that which might otherwise be unsavory or distasteful; by adding salt, it becomes more pleasant.

Salt not only adds flavor, it preserves, restraining the progression of corruption. While salt does not totally stop corruption, it slows it down, preserving, giving the gift of time.

In the midst of so much darkness today, there is an influence Christians still have. A “flavor” is added to the earth, that the Lord can take pleasure in.

How comforting to know that God does not just see all the darkness when He looks upon the earth; He also sees those who love Him. In spite of much that grieves, there is that which He takes pleasure in!

My desire is that the Lord would “take pleasure” in my life and my heart toward Him, that in this, His purpose might be fulfilled through my life — through a people joined with Him in that which He would yet do today.

Is this your desire too? If so, I invite you to pray this prayer together with me:

Our Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Son Jesus, redemption, our salvation which is through faith in You. We thank You that You not only saved us, You keep us, “working” all things together for Your good, in the lives of those who put their trust in You. You love and bless those that love You. You never leave or forsake them. You give them strength and help along the way.

As You look upon the earth, may You also see that which pleases You. May that ever increase. Cause us to be true reflections of You, Your nature, Your character, Your love, Your righteousness. Continue to work within our lives, we pray.

We ask that You would be made known in greater ways through us. That we would be carriers of Your presence. We ask for intervention, the gift of time, a great awakening, renewal, revival, an outpouring of Your Spirit to flood the earth. That truth and light would shine. Touch our government. Bless families. Help people everywhere, in every situation, we pray. We ask, Lord, that You come in intervention, that Your Spirit would touch hearts, bringing transformation. That truth and light would shine forth into hearts.

We thank You for the privilege of prayer, of talking to You. Help us to pray according to Your will. Cause us to be people of prayer. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
