A Simplicity of Love & Devotion

Nancy Taylor Tate

There is a simplicity of love and devotion in our walk with the Lord in which He delights. As we continue to grow in our relationship with Him, the Lord calls each one of us up into a deeper place of rest in Him. From that place of rest, we receive an impartation which enables us to become a greater expression of who He is and also positions us to better participate with Him in those things that are on His heart.

I was once asked why my dad said something. I didn’t know; I never heard him say that. But having spent time with my dad, if he did say it, I was pretty sure why he did. Later, I asked him if I was right, and he said yes. Through personal relationship and time spent with him, I had come to know his nature and his way of thinking.

Matthew 13:9 says, Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” In the natural, it is easier to hear what is truly being said when we get quiet. But this verse is talking about even more than our natural ability to hear. It is talking about our spiritual ear, which has to be cultivated.

In Genesis 18, Abraham was sitting in the door of his tent, when the Lord came to share His plan and purpose with him. Because Abraham knew the Lord, he began to make intercession in harmony with God’s heart, that the righteous not be destroyed with the wicked. Through an intervention of God, before judgment was released, Lot was brought out and saved.

The Lord is seeking, preparing, and empowering those who He can use today. There is a desperate need for those who will spend quality time in fellowship with the Lord; those who would come to know His heartbeat and move in harmony with Him; those, who from a place of quietness and of knowing Him, can give expression to His heart.

Matthew 11:28–30 reads, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Sometimes when tiredness strikes, I stop and consider what I’m doing. The Lord has given us strength to do everything He has called us to do. Yet, how easy it is to become busy doing good things, but not necessarily what we are called to do. As I learn to prioritize my time with the Lord and stay focused, I find I have all the energy I need, even when doing the most difficult tasks.

My prayer today is simply this: Lord, help us to enter into Your rest. Give us Your enabling grace for all You have called us to do. Help us to stay focused…to prioritize…to always have quality time to spend with You. We want to be an expression of Your heart, to participate with You in those things on Your heart today.

However You would use us, Lord, we make ourselves available to You.
