The Family of God

Nancy Taylor Tate

Recently I shared some of our history, which inspired further writing on treasuring the relationships that God has blessed us with through the years. I am so thankful to be a part of the family of God! A many-membered body, joined together under His headship, in whom Christ is being reproduced. Christ in you, the hope of glory. Christ in us!

Reviewing topics I have been speaking on and writing about through the years, I was so encouraged to recognize truths that sow into the vision God entrusted to us. As I sat there, I stopped to thank the Lord. He has been so faithful! It’s been a journey! He has taken us on the right route, that we might come into our appointed place within the body of Christ, as a people being joined together under His headship, made ready, to be partakers together with Him in the glory to come.

I have been listening to and singing along with “The Goodness of God,” sung by Jenn Johnson. It touches my heart every time I hear it. We can’t help but be encouraged, built up, and strengthened as we focus on the Lord and His attributes – His love! His faithfulness! His omnipotence!

Psalm 96:1 encourages us, O sing unto the LORD a new song: sing unto the LORD, all the earth.

What is that new song? It’s the song of redemption (Revelation 5:9). This song comes from a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and celebrates the new life we now have in Him. It’s a song about His love, His goodness, and His faithfulness. A song filled with hope, vision, purpose, and direction.

Song of Solomon 2:12 says, The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing of birds is come, the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”

In the verse above, the time of singing speaks of our spiritual worship; the flowers, the beauty of the Lord. The voice of the turtle (the Lord), does not always move as quickly as we would like, but He is speaking and moving, and His purposes will surely be fulfilled.

We planted several Crape Myrtle trees in our yard this spring. We watered them faithfully – every other night – just as we were instructed to do. But they looked like dry sticks in the ground. Then one day we saw life as little buds began to appear. We were so excited! Now we are enjoying the beautiful blossoms!

Let’s not get weary of watering in the place God has called us. There are seasons and times in God. Let worship arise and flood our hearts, our thoughts, our lives, as we focus on the beauty of the Lord, His goodness, His faithfulness, His love, His omnipotence! He, who makes intercession for us, works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, that we might be conformed into the image of His Son (Romans 8:27-29).

A choir I want to be part of is found in Revelation 19:6, “And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

The Lord God omnipotent translates as not just the Lord God Almighty, but the Lord our God the Almighty. It’s very personal worship from an overcoming people experientially proclaiming the power, might, and goodness of God as a part of their own personal testimony as they declare, He reigns!

The Lord is preparing a witness during such a time as this, those who with expectation, are joining in with the heavenly host as they too experientially proclaim His goodness, faithfulness, power, and might.

The time of singing has come! May we see and proclaim the faithfulness of God.
