Living Room Moments
Each day, I am blessed as my husband Allen shares truths from the Word of God, then leads in prayer. We have started to call these times Living Room Moments.
On one particular day, Allen read Psalm 62:1, “My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.”
Then he used our little dog, Jethro, as a good example of expectation. The night before, Allen had told Jethro it was time for a biscuit, then he got distracted doing other things. Jethro simply followed right along with Allen, looking at him with expectation, like he knew what was coming and he was waiting for it. When Allen got over to the cabinet where the biscuits were, Jethro expectantly looked at Allen again. Allen remembered, got the biscuit out, and Jethro ate it!
We can get diverted from what we are doing, and forget, but God never does that. There may be times, however, when God knows it’s not time for that expectation to be fulfilled. During those times, He wants us to remain in expectation, just like Jethro did!
Jethro was not frustrated or even impatient. He had no fear it might not happen. He simply waited expectantly, staying close, with his eye on Allen, until the right moment came. Jethro didn’t say, “Oh, well, I’m not going to get my biscuit,” and walk away. He stayed close to Allen until his expectation was met.
We are to be expectant, with the knowledge, hope, and understanding that God will take care of us. God has given us promises in His Word. We’re not tapping our foot impatiently or crossing our fingers that God is going to hear us. We are expecting that God will move and give us the answer He thinks is best, in the time He thinks is best.
We can be like Jethro, looking expectantly toward the Lord, praying, maybe for the same thing over and over, not because God didn’t hear us, but just to let Him know we still have an expectation that He will answer our prayer, in His way and in His time.
May we rest in the faithfulness of God, giving Him thanks for the hope we have in Him and for the promises He has given us.
He never forgets! Yet His time is not always our time. Often, we want things right now! But that may not be the best time. As we wait, may we be patient in our waiting, keeping our eyes on God, knowing His time is perfect! And in His time, He will give us what is best for us.
I hope you are as blessed as I have been, as we share this Living Room Moment with you.
Prayerfully yours,
Nancy & Allen Tate
