Draw Me

Nancy Taylor Tate

Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.” Song of Solomon 1:4

Prayer can center on Jesus, out of a desire for our own personal relationship with the Lord to deepen.  I have noticed in my own life as I am simply setting my love on the Lord, from that place of fellowship with Him, He often shares His heart, and also moves in intervention according to His will.

How we need to be deeply established in our own personal relationship with the Lord, that we might grow in our fellowship with Him!  How the Lord longs for a people to be brought up into a cooperative relationship with Him!

A lady who lived in the early 1900’s came to mind recently.  She lived her life in deep surrender to the Lord and daily fellowship with Him.  One occasion is told of a raging fire out of control in the city where she lived.  Knowing she would soon have to evacuate she glanced around her room.  The only thing of value seemed to be her Bible.  As she reached for it, a verse came to mind.  “neither shall the flame kindle upon you.”  Quickened, she realized this was a word from the Lord.  In faith she reached out her hand and rebuked the fire.  In that instant a breeze began to blow in the other direction. In the newspapers the next day it was told how the wind suddenly changed course, taking the fire into the river, where it burned itself out.  From a place of relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and a hearing ear, not only was her home saved, but the city.

This is the level of relationship the Lord is calling us up into as believers today.  Our prayers can express a sincere desire to the Lord for His fullness in our lives.  We can pray prayers of consecration, inviting the Lord to work deep within our hearts, so that He might also work through us in greater ways.

A very short but powerful prayer is found in Song of Solomon 1:4.  “Draw me.”  In the same verse, this prayer is followed by a commitment which we too can make.  “We will run after You.”  Then a testimony, with a declaration follows.  “The king hath brought me into His chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.

May we pray:  Lord, I ask that You draw us.  We commit ourselves to follow after You, body, soul, and spirit, all of us, with everything within us.  Draw us through every circumstance and situation, to You, Your heart, Your thoughts, and Your ways…
