Each month we highlight one article by Wade Taylor on our website, under Article of the Month. As I looked again at the title we are highlighting this month, I had second thoughts… “Maybe I should save this for another month. December is so busy for so many people!” Then I remembered this verse:
“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn” Luke 2:7.
As the words, “no room, no room!” echoed in my thoughts, I decided this was the article to feature this month! May we be ones who make room for times with the Lord as we celebrate His first coming! This is my prayer for us.
This month’s Article of the Month, entitled “A Call to Come Apart” is one of my favorites, with truths that have become personalized in my life experience. A devotional life is something we will always have to contend for! But it is well worth the effort. There is a progression in what God is doing today! We are called to become an expression of Him.
God calls out to us through the Bible from beginning to end. In Genesis 3:9 the Lord is calling, “Adam, where are you?” In Revelation 3:20, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock.” Then He says, “IF any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.”
Both of these verses speak of the seeking heart of God. The last verse is often used in salvation messages, but it also specifically speaks to the church and those already saved, of the Lord’s desire to come “into” our programs and daily lives.
The Lord will “awaken our ear” – morning by morning – if we will but hear His nudge and respond, opening the door for Him to come into our day, our life (Isaiah 50:4). As we do this, we come to know the Lord in deeper ways and experience the fullness of life found through personal relationship with Him.
I was on a mission trip one year at Christmastime. In the villages, there were no Christmas decorations or songs. Only the Christians celebrated Christmas. Since then, I have had an even greater appreciation for all that we do in our country to remember Christmas. And an even greater appreciation for those who also acknowledge the reason for the season, the Lord Jesus Christ!
I am loving all the busyness the holidays bring! Our town is really lit up! We so enjoy all the Christmas programs, the Christmas songs, bells and music!
Yet may we also make room to spend time with the One whom we celebrate, our Lord and Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ!
A Call to Come Apart? Yes! Even during the holidays!
