God With Us

Nancy Taylor Tate

Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23

For the United States, and other nations of the world, Christmas is a time when those who choose to so, celebrate the first coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He was the Son of God, yet to a lowly manger He came in the form of a babe born of a virgin. He was subject to His parents as He grew up, tested in the wilderness, and faithful in public ministry. He fully overcame as a man, then as the spotless Lamb of God, offered Himself for our sins, totally paying the price, that through faith we might be restored and live in right relationship with God.

Recently, a close friend of mine went home to be with the Lord. Their life was marked by the presence of the Lord, and they loved to teach from the tabernacle. Their son gave me a picture of the tabernacle which had been theirs, and I hung it on the wall in my office. As I would walk by and look at it, it reminded me of them, and I would feel sad. But one day as I looked at that tabernacle surrounded by tents, the words “I will dwell in the midst of you” became alive in me and filled my heart! What a treasure my friend left me with!

Emmanuel! God with us! The tabernacle gives us a beautiful picture of this reality – that which is ours under the New Covenant through the Lord Jesus Christ, regardless of circumstance or situation. Nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:35-39). He has promised never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). He is a friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). We all will have times of testing and times of blessing. He is with us in every season!

Even now, different ones are facing different situations. For some it is a time of joy and laughter. For others, there is a tinge of sadness or even loneliness. Whatever your season, may embracing “God in the midst of us” make your joy even more joyful, or fill your heart as it has mine.

Emmanuel! God with us! He is with us! May that truth be a comfort and encouragement to you!  A reality, as we honor the Lord Jesus Christ together, giving thanks to Him for His presence and steadfast love.

Pressing Toward the Mark

by Wade E Taylor

“Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth to those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”  Philippians 3:13‑14

In this personal testimony, Paul tells us that he is determinedly moving towards an attainable goal.  When we are able to recognize our purpose and calling in life, and move toward this as being our “goal,” then our spiritual journey through life will become much more productive.

Our understanding the purpose of predestination will both help and guide us in responding to our “purpose and calling.”

The Motives of our Heart

by Wade E Taylor

“And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him. But the Lord said to Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord sees not as man sees; for man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”  I Samuel 16:6-7

When the Lord deals with us, He probes the motives of our heart in order to reach the root, or the source of our condition and need.  He then works within us according to the “potential” that He sees.

A Firm Foundation

by Wade E Taylor

Our spiritual life must be established and abide upon a firm foundation.  This “foundation” is our daily time of worship and prayer, which flows out from our innermost being to the Lord.  It is not the amount of time (quantity) that we spend in worship and prayer that is important, but rather, the quality of this time.

Pressing through Busyness

Luke 5:1-4

“And it came to pass, that, as the people pressed upon him to hear the word of God, he stood by the lake of Gennesaret, and saw two ships standing by the lake….  And he entered into one of the ships, which was Simon’s, and prayed him that he would thrust out a little from the land. And he sat down, and taught the people out of the ship.  Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.”

Our Identity

by Wade E Taylor

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”  Philippians 2:5-8

Becoming a Wheel within a Wheel

Wade E Taylor

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient to death, even the death of the cross.”  Philippians 2:5-8

The Eternal Now

Wade E Taylor

he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.”   Exodus 3:2

Moses turned aside to stand before a bush that burned, but was not consumed.  This bush is yet burning and the Lord is still waiting for those who will notice and then turn aside into His burning presence.

The Power of Choice

Wade E Taylor

“And He said to them all, If any man will (willingly choose to) come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”  Luke 9:23

Each of us who desires to personally know and serve the Lord must first make this life changing decision to “take up our cross.”  When we willingly do this, our present relationship to the Lord, and also, our eternal position in the ages to come, will be greatly affected.

Our Becoming Transparent

Wade  E  Taylor

“And before the throne there was, as it were, a sea of glass like crystal: and in the center and around the throne, four living creatures full of eyes in front and behind.”  Revelation 4:6 NAS

This speaks of “overcomers” who are in the midst of, and round about the Throne.  These are seen as being as a “sea of glass,” or as being totally transparent in the presence of the Lord.

Our Attaining to that Which is Best

Dear Friends in our Lord’s Purpose and Calling,

Each month I highlight one article written by my dad, Wade Taylor. As we begin the new year, I am praying earnestly as to what truths would be most helpful to set our hearts on.

The sense of “a new beginning” inspires many to make resolutions and decisions as they seek to attain that which is best in their lives. This month’s article speaks into that desire, giving keys to help maintain the quality of our spiritual life, guarding the progress we have made.

Overcoming Hindrances to Our Going Further

Wade E Taylor

“And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world has been hidden in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: To the intent that now to the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God, according to the eternal purpose which He purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  Ephesians 3:9-11

Intercession

by Wade E Taylor

“But you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly.”  Matthew 6:6

This speaks of the importance and the power of private, personal prayer.
